Questa volta a essere intervistata è stata Claire, che ci ha raccontato del suo lavoro e ci ha anticipato dell’evento del prossimo 14 aprile, il concerto dei Ray Collins Hot Club che si terrà a Londra.

-Can you describe Voodoo doll’s in 3 words?

Rockin’ Rhythm ‘n’ Blues

– How does Voodo Doll’s come about? For a passion?
Totally! I’m extremely passionate about live music & supporting bands & musicians on the vintage scene. For me, there’s nothing better than going to see a great live band & I want to put on nights where others can come & get that same buzz & enjoyment.

-How do you decide which will be your next event?

It’s not easy promoting live music in London so I’ve had to cut back on the number of nights I run, making them bigger “events” that hopefully people will put in their calendar rather than running a regular monthly club which people know is always there so don’t worry if they miss one… or three!
This makes it tough as there are so many talented musicians & fabulous bands it’s difficult to choose. I try to go for something you won’t see every week so that it’s special. I like to see a band perform live where possible, before I book them, but if not I’ll research them on the internet & YouTube. I’ll also ask other friends, dancers, music lovers for their opinions & whether they would go to see that particular artist again. Ultimately, I go with my gut instinct… is this something I would pay to go & see? Then I have my answer!

-Can u tell me more about the event with Ray Collins’ Hot-Club?
This will be a fantastic night for sure. It’s the third Rockin Ball in London with these guys & their second time performing at 229. It’s a great venue with a huge stage, so plenty of space for the band to strut their stuff & high enough for everyone in the room to see them. Ray Collins’ Hot-Club are undoubtedly the hottest band in Europe & their shows are like no others. The coolest cats & kittens are coming from far & wide to see this gig! It’s a night to dress up, dance, drink & hear some superb music from not only the band, but my superb fellow DJs – Lady Kamikaze & Mr Jinx. The Hot-Club is coming to London Town… don’t miss it!

-How is the swing and rockabilly scene in London?
There is a thriving scene in London. Always lots to choose from!

Haha, now there’s a question!
I’d say support live music & those promoters who put it on! It’s not easy & most of us do it for the love of the music. Without bands like Ray Collins’ Hot-Club, The Jive Romeros, The Revs, Natty Congeroo, Laura B, Alex Mendham and too many more to list, there is no scene. Don’t let it die.

– Come nasce Voodo Doll? Per una passione?
Totalmente! Sono estremamente appassionato di musica dal vivo e band e musicisti di supporto sulla scena vintage. Per me, non c’è niente di meglio che andare a vedere una grande band dal vivo e voglio mettere in serate dove gli altri possono venire e ottenere lo stesso entusiasmo e divertimento.

-Come decidi quale sarà il tuo prossimo evento?

Non è facile promuovere la musica dal vivo a Londra, quindi ho dovuto ridurre il numero di notti che corro, rendendole più grandi “eventi” che si spera che le persone inseriscano il loro calendario piuttosto che gestire un normale club mensile che la gente sa è sempre quindi non preoccuparti se ti manca uno … o tre!
Ciò rende difficile il fatto che ci siano così tanti musicisti di talento e gruppi favolosi che è difficile scegliere. Provo ad andare per qualcosa che non vedrai ogni settimana in modo che sia speciale. Mi piace vedere una band esibirsi dal vivo dove possibile, prima di prenotarli, ma se non li cercherò su Internet e YouTube. Chiederò anche ad altri amici, ballerini, amanti della musica per le loro opinioni e se sarebbero andati a vedere di nuovo quel particolare artista. In definitiva, vado con il mio istinto … è qualcosa che pagherei per andare a vedere? Allora ho la mia risposta!

-Puoi parlarmi dell’evento con l’Hot-Club di Ray Collins?

Questa sarà sicuramente una notte fantastica. È il terzo Rockin Ball di Londra con questi ragazzi e la loro seconda esibizione al 229. È un luogo fantastico con un palcoscenico enorme, quindi c’è tanto spazio per la band che si sforza di fare le cose e abbastanza in alto da permettere a tutti nella stanza di vederli. L’Hot-Club di Ray Collins è indubbiamente la band più in voga in Europa e i loro spettacoli sono come nessun altro. I gatti e i gattini più cool arrivano da ogni parte per vedere questo concerto! È una notte da indossare, ballare, bere e ascoltare musica superba non solo della band, ma anche dei miei superbi DJ – Lady Kamikaze e Mr Jinx. L’Hot-Club sta arrivando a Londra … da non perdere!

-Come è la scena swing e rockabilly a Londra?
C’è una scena fiorente a Londra. Sempre molto da scegliere!

Haha, ora c’è una domanda!
Direi supporto per la musica dal vivo e per i promotori che lo indossano! Non è facile e molti di noi lo fanno per amore della musica. Senza band come l’Hot-club di Ray Collins, The Jive Romeros, The Revs, Natty Congeroo, Laura B, Alex Mendham e troppe altre da elencare, non c’è scena. Non lasciarlo morire
